Small Fries & Friends

Before our Mama guppy, Karena (H's spelling), passed, she had one more little brood of babies. After some were eaten by the bigs and one tragic accidental death while I was trying to get one little one into the net for transfer to the nursery : (, we added 7-10 baby-littles to our twenty growing-littles. Off and on we would ask each other, are those babies growing,  but the new little fries have reminded us how little the first group used to be!

Also, we've got a great big water snail that Ben named "Cool Dude" and his wife, "Shelly." We think they must have hitch hiked in with some aquatic plants that we tried out. The plants didn't last long but our snails are really making their mark, as we've counted about 7 baby snails so far. They help clean the tank walls and the kids love them!

It's been easy to tell when our fishies have been ready to pass. The kids have had a day or two to prepare for it and say their good byes. When we took Karena down to the creek for her funeral a HUGE mustard colored toad joined us. It was a sweet little kindness for a girl who was so sad to see her Mama fish go. After she passed we released all the fries into the big tank. So cool to watch them all swimming free!

The excitement of all the babies being born, watching them grow and start to get their colors, watching all those little fishies swim and play together, the snail watch and the fun of discovering one cruising around, plus the good talks about mortal life, death and beyond and the practice grieving and moving forward have been fun and good for our little family. Who'd have thought I could love having fish so much?!
