The Move

Well, when we moved to CA after chiro school our plan was to stay 3 years or so and then head back East and settle down. Jared and I both really liked SC and thought we'd end up back there. When things weren't turning out like we had hoped in CA, talk around the house became, "Well, we might just move back East sooner than we thought, " but Jared was just putting together a big marketing push for his own Accident and Injury LLC and we didn't have any plans to move.

Then, the first week of June our landlords told us that they were selling the house. We could either buy it or move and they were going to start showing the house right away. So, we had to move. We thought we'd put Jared's resume out East and see what happened. But where to apply?

Over the year that we lived in CA Jared developed an interest in personal injury work and began an expert certification program. At one of his seminars he met a guy, with a BYU t-shirt on. They struck up a conversation and it turned out the guy was from SC. Jared told him that we were planning on moving back out there at some point. The guy told Jared that SC had really bad personal injury laws and that it would be hard to set up a personal injury practice there. Hmmm. Now what?

So, Jared sat down and looked for the States with the best PI laws. Almost at the top of the list was PA, where 2 of my sisters lived. We felt good about that. Jared sent his resume out to several prospective offices in Eastern PA and started doing phone interviews. He was offered two jobs over the phone and two more, with a lot higher earning potential, were very seriously interested, one of them a personal injury practice, and asked for in person interviews.

We didn't have money for plain tickets for Jared to fly out for interviews...or for a moving truck or a Upack...or anything for that matter. We thought it through. We thought about the offers he'd been given and the potential of the other jobs. We fasted and prayed. And on June 20th, Father's Day, Jared pulled out of Yuba City, with our van packed with as much of the most important stuff we could fit in it, on his way to PA.

He unloaded the van into my sister basement and doubled back to St. Louis to pick up me and the kids. My family flew us into St. Louis and made it possible for us to stay in Nauvoo for a few days at my "Seven Sisters Family Reunion." Then we all drove back to PA together.

Before and after Nauvoo Jared had his in-person interview with one group and interviews with another. The second group, the personal injury practice, offered us the perfect job! The job offered the security of a salary (even the probationary salary was 25% more than we had been making) with unlimited potential for increase. The perfect situation for Jared, because he had the security of knowing his family would be cared for, plus all the room in the world for his creativity and the marketing work, which he loves to do. We feel so blessed.
